"Engaging Wisdom and Compassion"

with Gelek Rimpoche

To maintain the positive benefit of the recent Michigan visit and teachings given by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Ann Arbor, Gelek Rimpoche, founder and spiritual director of Jewel Heart, will offer a lecture entitled Engaging Wisdom and Compassion on Sunday, May 4 in Grand Rapids. The 2pm lecture serves as a helpful follow-up for those who attended His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s talks in April, as well as serving as an excellent introduction for those new to Tibetan Buddhism.

Born in 1939 in Lhasa, Tibet, Gelek Rimpoche has played a crucial role in the survival and transmission of traditional Tibetan Buddhism. Recognizing the unique opportunity for the interface of spiritual and material concerns in today’s world, Rimpoche has also opened a dialogue with science, psychology, medicine, metaphysics, politics, and the arts. Mentored by some of Tibet’s greatest Buddhist masters, Rimpoche is among the last generation of Tibetan Lamas fully trained in ‘Old Tibet’, pre-1959. An example of kindness, generosity, good humor, and inspirational insight, Rimpoche is particularly distinguished for his familiarity with contemporary culture, and his special effectiveness as a teacher of Western practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism. RImpoche is an internationally recognized spiritual teacher and bestselling author of Good Life, Good Death and The Tara Box: Rituals for Healing and Protection from the Female Buddha, as well as over 30 teaching transcripts. Rimpoche is a U.S. citizen and lives in Michigan.

The talk is open to all and free of charge. The Grand Rapids talk will be held at Grand Valley State University, Loosemoore Auditorium, 301 W. Fulton St., EC 210. For more information or for other Midwest appearances call 734 994 3387 or visit www.jewelheart.org.
