Great Lakes Conference Highlights Sustainability
On July 11-13, Grand Rapids will host mayors from the eight Great Lakes states and two Canadian provinces while the prestigious group holds its 2007 Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative (GLSLCI) Annual Meeting. Being held at DeVos Place, this outstanding opportunity will showcase the city and region to influential mayors and spouses, their staffs, and U.S. and Canadian dignitaries from Quebec, Toronto, Chicago and many points in between.
The GLSLCI is working to protect and restore the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence and their ecological systems. For many attendees, this meeting will be an introduction to the broader issue of triple-bottom-line sustainability. Working to preserve and protect our watershed city, attendee’s can help make the connection between the importance of healthy water and the quality of life and the sustainability of a community. "This is a chance to not only influence and educate, but to showcase the sustainable planning, collaborative partnerships, and economic development that make Grand Rapids a great place to live, learn, work and play;" says Norman Christopher, Director of Sustainability at Grand Valley State University.
To play a role in this critical global imperative, the community is encouraging organizations to attend, sponsor and exhibit their products, services and accomplishments. "Your contribution will demonstrate the great support this community enjoys and will evidence your leadership and commitment that brings us closer
to our goal of being the leading mid-sized sustainable U.S. city," notes Christopher.
