Susan Werner Performs Benefit Concert in West Michigan
Susan Werner – hailed as one of the most innovative songwriters working today - is returning to West Michigan for a concert to benefit Harbor Unitarian Universalist Congregation (HUUC) on Saturday, May 24th at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Community Church (C3), Spring Lake. Ms. Werner, named Contemporary Artist of the Year at the March 2008 International Folk Alliance in Memphis, will perform selections from her most recent project, "The Gospel Truth". The project is a groundbreaking independent collection that may just be "The world’s first agnostic gospel recording."
As a farm girl, raised in a large Catholic family in rural Iowa, Werner spent years caught in the spiritual middle between a healthy religious skepticism and a true appreciation for all that Christianity means to millions of people in the United States. "For me, 'The Gospel Truth' is the most American of Americana projects," says Werner. "My personal doubts aside, religion gives us much of our energy as a nation, and is a source, I think, of the beautiful naiveté we have about truly being a force of good in the world. It’s part of the American personality."
All proceeds from the event will go to HUUC's general operating budget. H.U.U.C. is a dynamic liberal, religious community that protects and nourishes spiritual freedom, integrity, intellect and service.
Tickets are $12 in advance or $14 at the door and are available through the HUUC office at 1296 Montgomery, Muskegon, 231.755.2932 or through the concert promoter Quiet Faith Productions, 616.604.1001. In addition, tickets can be purchased through "PayPal," accessed through the "Current Concert" page on www.Quietfaith.com. C3 is located at 225 East Exchange Street, in Spring Lake.
