Bag It
Earth Day Class Grocery Project
Students have a nifty new way to spread the word on the benefits of shopping with cloth bags and keeping paper and plastic bags from cycling through the waste stream. Here’s the idea. Through the first three weeks of April, participating teachers collect brown paper bags from one or more local grocery stores. Then students decorate away with pictures of people recycling, conserving natural resources and protecting endangered animals. Each piece de resistance is topped off with a message asking shoppers to "Please use cloth bags." Completed bags go back to the store April 21 for retail customer use on Earth Day, April 22.
