One Million Pounds of Pesticides Gone

Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection’s "Operation Cleansweep" has collected more than a million pounds of unused and outdated pesticides from farms, businesses and other commercial sites during the past 12 years. The program collects and properly disposes of canceled, suspended or unusable pesticides from the state’s farmers, nurseries, golf courses and pest control companies.

"This program illustrates what we can accomplish when we work together," says Charles Bronson, commissioner of Florida Agriculture and Consumer Services. Businesses avoid formidable regulatory barriers and burdens. And everyone wins. More, it provides a sound precedent for the wider public’s participation in ongoing residential hazardous waste collection.
