Laugh Doctor
Rx for Life at Good Humor Conference
Humor Project founder Joel Goodman spends his life helping people prevent what he calls a "hardening of the attitudes." Thousands follow his prescription for adding years to their lives, and life to their years, by partaking of his annual international Humor Summit & Retreat. This year they’ll gather ’round the summer solstice at the historic Silver Bay Conference Center on Lake George, New York, June 22-24.
Likening a dose of daily laughing to inner jogging for health, Goodman queries, "We’ll laugh at this someday—why not now?" We need to take ourselves less seriously, he says. Seeing how we share the foibles and stresses of everyday living with the rest of humanity brings people together and opens lines of communication. And little by little, we get rid of hate.
Here’s a preview of tips for tickling the ol’ funny bone: Find out what makes you laugh and go there. Display light-hearted sayings, quotes and cartoons. Laugh with others, not at their expense. Celebrate personal mistakes by turning them into good stories. Consider yourself a funny person.
